Mission

The overarching goal is to foster greater coherence and collaboration for the increased adoption and implementation of shared open data principles, standards and good practices across sectors around the world.

The international Open Data Charter has the potential to accelerate progress by placing actionable data in the hands of people.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web

“GODAN supports global efforts to make agricultural and nutritionally relevant data available, accessible, and usable for unrestricted use worldwide. The initiative builds high level policy and public and private institutional support for open data through advocacy, research and communications, and encourages collaboration and cooperation to solve longstanding global problems.”

GODAN

“Socrata is honored and excited to support the global effort to implement the International Open Data Charter.  The Charter ushers in a new era in open, digital government – and provides the principles and roadmap needed to see open data have more meaningful impact on people’s lives, the empowerment of citizens, and in how government operates in the 21st Century. The potential for its impact is enormous.”

Socrata

“Open data is one of the most fundamental assets for empowering the entrepreneurship ecosystem, foster innovation and deliver better services, while being a transparent and accountable government.”
